Introduction of cultural relics

This small translucent jade seal was exacavated from a medium-size catacomb tomb at Fenghuangshan, Tianqi,Xuzhou. It has a perforation so that it can be worn and is carved with inscription on both sides. One side is inscribed with the characters of the owner’s name,Liu fan, a member of the imperial Liu family. The other is inscribed with the characters Chen fang(Your servent fan), which identifies him as a state offficial of the Chu kingdom. The inscriptions on both sides of the seal.together with seals found in imperial family tombs in the Xuzhou region, seem to confirm that, after the baima mengshi(the Oath of white horse), a secret meeting between Liu bang and trusted supporters, a agreeing that if anyone not of the Liu family becomes a king, the empire must unite in attacking him. State officials  in the Xuzhou area all appear to be under the control of members of the Liu imperial family.
